The registration fee of the Session Chair will be waived.
Special session proposals should include the title, aim and scope (including a list of main topics), and the names of the organizers of the special session, together with a short biography of all organizers. A list of potential contributors will be very helpful.
Special session proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness, uniqueness of the topic and qualifications of theSpecial session proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness, uniqueness
of the topic and qualifications of the proposers. The proposers are expected to
have a PhD degree and have a good publication track record in the proposed area.
After review, a decision on whether the proposal will be accepted will be sent
to the proposers within two weeks after receipt of the proposals. Accepted
special sessions will be listed on the website. However, it is likely that an
accepted proposal will be combined with another one to avoid multiple special
sessions covering a similar topic.
Proposals should be sent by e-mail to us.
Special Session
Session Title : Environmental Biotechnology
Session Chair:
Assoc. Prof. Shou-Qing (Nelson) Ni, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shandong University, China
Email: sqni@sdu.edu.cn
Prof. Jian Zhang, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shandong University, China
Email: zhangjian00@sdu.edu.cn
Aim and scope:
Environmental biotechnology is a system of scientific and engineering knowledge related to the use of microorganisms and their products in the prevention of environmental pollution through biotreatment of solid, liquid, and gaseous wastes, bioremediation of polluted environments, and biomonitoring of environment and treatment processes. The advantages of biotechnological treatment of wastes are as follows: biodegradation or detoxication of a wide spectrum of hazardous substances by natural microorganisms; availability of a wide range of biotechnological methods for complete destruction of hazardous wastes; and diversity of the conditions suitable for biodegradation.
The session will discuss the integration of science and engineering for the development, use and regulation of biological systems for remediation of contaminated environments (land, air, water), and for environment-friendly processes development (green manufacturing technologies and sustainable development).
List of main topics:
Bioaugmentation of biotreatment processes
Biological drinking water treatment processes
Biological nutrients removal and resource recovery
Biological treatment processes of pollutants
Biorefinery: biocompounds and biofuel
Biotechnology for municipal and countryside waste management
Bioremediation of contaminated environments
Environmental biotechnology for industrial wastes
Greenhouse gas emissions from wastewater treatment processes
Leading technology in environmental biotechnology
Renewable Energy from Wastes
